Ever since Facebook held a conference announcing a new layout and new features, the rumor has been that Facebook is going to start requiring you to kick some dollars their way.
Obviously, this news has put a lot of Facebook’s users on edge. Some tough choices will need to be made. Do I buy groceries? Car insurance? Facebook? Medicine?
hold on! You can avoid paying money for Facebook by making your change your status to “IT IS OFFICIAL. IT WAS EVEN ON THE NEWS. FACEBOOK WILL START CHARGING DUE TO THE NEW PROFILE CHANGES. IF YOU COPY THIS ON YOUR WALL YOUR ICON WILL TURN BLUE AND FACEBOOK WILL BE FREE FOR YOU. PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ON, IF NOT YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DELETED IF YOU DO NOT PAY”
Obviously this isn’t true, as anyone who’s ever logged into Facebook would know.
Did any of you fall for it? I mean, I did, but I’ll pretty much do anything a Facebook status tells me to. The Red Cross is going to send 35 cents to a starving kid in Turkey for everyone who posts this status? Copy pasted. And I would feel guilty if the troops checked my Facebook status and thought I didn’t support them as much as the rest of my friends.
I guess I don’t understand this train of thought. Why would copy/ pasting a status keep you from paying? Do they somehow make money the more you update your status? Are we thinking of Facebook like a factory that produces status updates and sells them for a profit?
And even in a financial sense, if Facebook needed your money, why would they give you a pass for telling your friends how to avoid giving them money? That would give them less money. This whole scenario falls apart with just a little bit of scrutiny. What kind of person is falling for this?
If the dark day where Facebook starts charging were to come, would you pay for it?
